Raw Almonds Nutrition Facts

Eating raw almonds is really good for you. Some of the nutrition facts are that almonds deliver a massive amount of nutrients. They are an excellent source of protein, but they may also have significant fat-burning power. Almonds are actually low in calories, eating ten almonds = approximately 78 calories.

Almonds are the edible seeds of Prunus dulcis, more commonly called the almond tree. They are native to the Middle East, but the US is now the world's largest producer.

Eating almonds every day is associated with greater weight loss and higher fat metabolism. Almonds are high in healthy monounsaturated fats (mono-saturated fat ('good' fat), omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and protein.

Almonds are also packed with useful nutrients like Vitamin E, and fibre, which is highly satiating and provides bulk to food without adding calories.

Did you know? The Romans showered newlyweds with almonds as a fertility charm.

RAW OR ROASTED, WHICH IS HEALTHIER? Almonds, either raw or roasted, are a reliable source of quick energy. Each 1/2-cup serving has 411 calories and about 15 grams of protein, but raw almonds are richer in fiber, with 9 grams of fiber per serving, compared to 7.5 grams of fiber in roasted almonds. However, roasting nuts may damage their healthy fat, reduce their nutrient content and lead to the formation of a harmful substance called acrylamide.

If you want a quick snack before bed that doesn't require any prep work, grab a handful of almonds. They're a rich source of the sleep-supporting amino acid tryptophan, as well as the nutrient magnesium, a natural muscle relaxer. Plus, the protein in almonds will keep you full all night.

Researchers have found that eating a handful of nuts a day could result in a longer lifespan, and may even reduce the risk of death from heart disease and cancer. Eating lots of nuts has also been associated with lower cholesterol, reductions in inflammation, oxidative stress, body fat and insulin resistance.
